SERVUS! CREW LOVE IS TRUE LOVE—and our crew includes not just the many people active on the ship, but also our STREET TEAMS, who are doing an incredible job in 22 (!) cities and regions. With great dedication and passion, they regularly show up at concerts, festivals, film screenings, public events and squares, as well as benefit events, raising awareness about human rights violations in the Mediterranean and the importance of civilian sea rescue.
We are taking legal action against this measure, which we view as a deliberate and unfounded obstruction of our civilian sea rescue operations. There is an obligation to rescue and disembark individuals in a safe port—which is precisely what we did, while maintaining continuous and full communication and cooperation with the Italian authorities.
YOU CAN HELP US! SHARE THIS POST in your Stories. IF YOU’RE A JOURNALIST - get in touch. LEAVE A DONATION to help us pay the fine and court costs.

We got detained! On September 23, 2026, the Prefect of the Province of Agrigento ordered a 15-day detention of Sea Punk I and imposed a fine of 7,500 euros.
The vessel was detained following a rescue operation carried out on Thursday, September 10, 2026, responding to a distress case near the Bouri oil platform, rescueing 20 people from a disabled fiberglass boat.

(German below) All rescued 58 people have been brought by Sea Punk I safely to port of Lampedusa which was assigned to us by the authorities for disembarkation. We wish all of them good luck for their life and a future in which they live a safe and healthy life and that anyone they encounter will treat them with the given respect and humanity.

After aligning with the authorities on next steps, our crew embarked all people safely to Sea Punk I. When the rescue was completed, our ship was approached and circled by an armed Libyan vessel, but shortly after they were leaving the scene. Authorities assigned us Crotone as port of safety.
September 14, 2026, 16:17
58 people rescued from distress at sea! During the past days, our crew of Sea Punk I was involved in rescuing two cases of distress at sea. On Thursday our crew rescued 20 people from a fiberglass boat in distress at sea, in the vicinity of the Bouri oil platform. The boat was unseaworthy, with no life saving equipment and drifting. People had been on the open sea for at least two days and were in a critical condition of dehydration.

September 14, 2026, 16:17
After a long search during the night, Sea Punk I crew finally could find the unseaworthy rubber boat in distress at sea. On it were 38 people including two babies, who are 2 and 5 months old. There was no life saving equipment, the boat was heavily overloaded and people were in critical medical condition due to dehydration and fuel burns, especially the children. Three people were already overboard and the rubber boat was listing heavily.
September 14, 2026, 16:17
As we were alarmed about another distress case rather close to us, we requested permission by the authorities to delay our direct transit to Crotone, in order to search for the people in distress in need of immediate help - as this is what confirms to international and maritime law.
Our crew got the green light from the Italian authorities to postpone their arrival to the assigned port to search for this specific distress case.
September 14, 2026, 16:17
Due to the emergency of that situation, our crew embarked all survivors to Sea Punk I.
We applied then for a closer port of disembarkation with the authorities and were granted Lampedusa to bring all 58 people to land.
Another Pullback: Sea Punk I witnesses multiple violations of international law
On Monday evening, our vessel Sea Punk I received a distress call regarding 40 people in distress at sea. The crew headed toward the incident's last known position and prepared for the operation. However, before arriving, they spotted another, significantly faster ship on the radar heading in the same direction. This ship lingered near the location for just under 15 minutes before steering toward the Libyan coast.
September 9, 2026, 21:57
Our bridge team attempted to contact the Libyan crew via radio to persuade them to leave the rescue operation to us, but their request was rejected.
Every pullback witnessed by us or others constitutes a violation of international law—funded by taxpayer money! Under the Geneva Refugee Convention and the European Convention on Human Rights, states are prohibited from returning anyone to a country where they face the threat of torture, inhumane treatment, or persecution.
September 9, 2026, 21:57
At the same time, a Frontex aircraft was circling overhead, broadcasting "Mayday Relay" messages—presumably to alert the so-called Libyan Coast Guard. When the Sea Punk I finally reached the reported coordinates at sunrise around 6:00 a.m., our crew saw a vessel belonging to the so-called Libyan Coast Guard in the early light, forcibly taking the people in distress back to Libya.
September 9, 2026, 21:57
When the Sea Punk I finally reached the site, no boat was to be found. As with previous incidents, we must assume this was another illegal pullback carried out by the so-called Libyan Coast Guard.
Just a few hours later—around 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday—the Sea Punk I received another distress call from an area approximately 30 nautical miles away: a boat carrying nearly 20 people had become unmaneuverable and was in distress.
September 9, 2026, 21:57
It is internationally established that Libya is not a safe place.
(German below) The Sea Punk I witnessed at least one pullback by the so-called Libyan Coast Guard!
On Sunday, the crew spotted a vessel belonging to the so-called Libyan Coast Guard heading south toward Libya with many people on deck—taking them back to a country where people fleeing for their lives face illegal detention in camps, rape, and torture. This is a violation of international law!
September 9, 2026, 09:48
The description of this boat matches a Libyan vessel that Airborne's Seabird @seawatchcrew had observed from the air hours earlier. Even then, there were already about 20 abducted people on board.
During the first few days of its rotation, our crew has already spotted five empty boats—silent witnesses to what happens in the Mediterranean every day: people fleeing in unseaworthy boats—one of them was marked with CP, which means that people were rescued by the Italian coast guards.
September 9, 2026, 09:48
The other four boats though remain empty and unmarked, which means that the so called Libyan coast guards most likely have been illegally pulling those people back.

(German below) We are operational again. Sea Punk I left the port of Augusta and reached the Area of Operation in the central Mediterranean. Our crew is on look out and ready to rescue in case we find people who are in distress at sea. Your donation makes a difference and supports people on the move. No civil sea rescue without you. Link in Bio.
We do this because it is right and necessary. Civilian sea rescue saves lives and stands as a symbol of humanity and of universal human rights. Our crew trains day in and day out to head out on the next rotation and come to the aid of people in distress in the central Mediterranean. You are part of this, as we fund our operations through donations. Your donation saves lives and sends a message against the shift to the right and the rise of fascism in Europe.
Consequently, in critical situations where rapid assistance is required—and where life-saving medical equipment or infrastructure beyond our capabilities is needed—we may have to transfer patients to the Coast Guard or a helicopter. The crew trains regularly to ensure that everyone knows exactly what to do in an emergency.
Your donation helps us head out on our next mission. Become a recurring donor or support us with a one-time contribution. Full details are in our bio.
August 31, 2026, 16:27
(German below) Our crew in Augusta continues to train daily. This includes preparing for a medically necessary evacuation (MedEvac). We have a fully equipped medical unit inside the blue container on board, designed for medical examinations and initial care; however, the Sea Punk I has not a full-scale hospital.
The UN reported a sharp surge in Mediterranean migrant fatalities in 2026, recording over 1,000 deaths and disappearances despite an overall drop in crossing attempts. Civil sea rescue is a commitment to saving lives. Your support helps making next rotations possible. Become a recurring donor now—find all the details in our bio.

A new crew is getting trained for our next rotation in the Mediterranean with our Sea Punk I! Thanks to your support, we are setting sail once again for the search-and-rescue zone in the central Mediterranean. We will be on the ground to provide life-saving assistance when people on the move find themselves in distress at sea - which is excatly what international law mandates. This is a duty that should fall to EU states, yet they instead strip people of their rights and knowingly let them drown
A new crew rotation is coming up! In the next days, a new crew will arrive at the Sea Punk I and begin their week of trainings. Meanwhile, those already on board are preparing the rescue equipment. This includes cleaning and sorting the life jackets from the previous rotation and stowing them. Life jackets are the first thing we hand out when we encounter people in distress at sea. They save lives. Just like you do when you support us with a donation. There is no sea rescue without you.
A quick photo greeting from Augusta. A shout-out to our layover crew, who show up every day in scorching heat to keep the *Sea Punk I* shipshape so she can soon set sail for her next mission. Sea rescue is a team effort, and we love our team. There are few things better than people standing in solidarity. Love and Rage.
⛴️ URGENT: Call for Physician - Third Rotation Sea Punks 2026 🏥
For our next rotation, we are currently searching for a physician, as the position is open due to a late cancellation.
📆 Dates: 17.08.-25.09.2026 (given the circumstances we are flexible on starting date) Requirements: at least two years of experience in internal medicine or surgery, ideally emergency medicine. Desired: SAR experience. Travel costs are covered.
August 11, 2026, 21:34
The medical team on board of Sea Punk 1 consists of two medical health care experts and a medical backoffice will be provided.
Applicants please get in contact at crewing@seapunks.de
A different Europe is not just possible—it is being embodied, championed, and fought for every single day by tens of thousands of civilians and activists. A Europe that truly stands up for peace, democracy, reconciliation, and human rights—extending its commitment beyond its own borders. A Europe that rejects neo-colonial trade agreements, exploitation, the militarization of borders, arms exports, the financing of wars, and the rearmament.
WE MOURN. We mourn the people who died in Ceuta last week—further avoidable and violent deaths at Europe’s border for which the EU bears responsibility.
WE URGE ACTION. Don't let yourselves be taken for fools. Remain human—with empathy and an open heart—and look beyond the biased headlines. Everyone has a story. Everyone has the right to a life in dignity.
August 8, 2026, 09:30
WE ACCUSE. People were being fed fake news here, knowing well that people may and would die as a result. Those people were being used for cruel political power games in a Europe that has lost all sense of proportion and decency in its public debate about people and humanity. Fascistization is happening now.
Requirements: *Language and translation skills (English, French & Arabic) *Other languages & SAR experience desirable *Experience in cultural mediation with people from different backgrounds *Conflict management skills

💥URGENT! Cultural Mediator needed for Sea Punks rotation in August💥
We are looking for a Cultural Mediator to join our next rotation from 17.08. to 25.09.2026
As a cultural mediator, you will be the first point of contact with people in distress and will be part of the RHIB team and the Care team on board. We invite people with migration lived experience to apply, even if you don't meet all the requirements.
"Because we care." This is the answer to the question why we do what we do. Sea Punk I just finished it's first rotation in 2026 after a long but necessary period of dry dock and repairs. Our crew patrolled the mediterranean sea for roughly three weeks, documented rescue cases, ...

...was approached by so called Libyan coast guards and rescued nine people in distress at sea, just in time, on their unseaworthy rubber boat. We feel obliged to do this, as European states don't although it would be their legal duty to do so.
In addition, the Captain trains the rest of the crew in the watch system and in the use of bridge equipment, ropes and radio communication.
Requirements:
STCW II/2 Master Code Vessel less than 200GT or STCW II/2 Master Workboat less than 500GT Medical Fitness Certificate for Seafarers Ability to cooperate well within a team and work closely with the Head of Operations Ability to provide training and supervision to others Ability to delegate tasks Excellent communication skills
July 23, 2026, 12:53
(German below) SUPER URGENT! We are looking for a captain to join our next rotation, planned from 17th August to 25th September! If we do not find someone, we have to cancel the rotation.
The captain is responsible for navigation and all safety-related procedures on the ship. In close cooperation with the Head of Operation, the Captain plans and coordinates the SAR rotation, rescues and the disembarkation of survivors.
July 23, 2026, 12:53
What we offer:
Seafarers’ employment agreement under German law and salary of 3340 € brutto per month, 1:1 contract.
After a two days transit, all nine survivors disembarked safely in Vibo Valencia. We are glad that we found them in time and thank them for their trust. We wish them all the best and safety for their future. No one is free until everyone is free.
Sea Punk I is now on it's way back to Augusta. Our crew did a great job! In Augusta we will have a crew change and get prepared for our next rotation. You can support us going out to rescue again with your donation.
The bridge informed the respective authorities and our RHIB crew assessed the boat with our RHIB Molly.
The crew embarked all survivors on Sea Punk 1 and kept patrolling until MRCC Rome assigned Vibo Valencia as Port of Safety - which is a two days transit away! On board everyone got a medical check up, food, a shower, and some much needed rest. The survivors told that they were at sea for two days. They did not have contact with anyone. Our crew just encountered them by chance through lookout
July 12, 2026, 21:09
Sea Punk I rescues nine people out of an unseaworthy rubber boat in distress at sea!
A small rubber boat, losing air on one side, with 9 people on board drifting - seven of them unaccompanied minors. This is the situation our crew encountered yesterday. Everything happened very quickly. Part of our crew was woken up around 5.00 a.m. by crew members on lookout duty. By the time everyone was on deck, they could already see the rubber boat in distress.
July 12, 2026, 21:09
Libya is not a safe country and known as a place where people on the move are forcibly kept in detention where they are subjected to torture, ill-treatment and sexual violence.
We are glad that we found them just in time and everyone for now is safe aboard Sea Punk I.
July 12, 2026, 21:09
While making their long way to Vibo Valencia, time is spent together by resting, playing chess, eating and exchanging with each other. Testimonies show that among the survivors are persons that report having been subjected to torture and/or other forms of violence. As they left from Libya this, unfortunately, comes not as a surprise.
Our crew during these hours was also followed and approached by a vessel of the so-called Libyan Coast Guards. They came close to our Sea Punk I, wanted to know if we'd rescued anyone, wished us good luck and went off.
Then came the Mayday Relay from Eagle One, about a boat adrift with fifteen people on it. It seemed to match the earlier Alarm Phone case, but our crew had no firm confirmation. It was forty nautical miles away, within the Maltese SAR area.
July 10, 2026, 10:38
We will never get used to these ghost boats, sad witnesses of Europe’s racist border regime. People try to cross the Mediterranean on un-seaworthy boats like this one in the picture here, everyday. When our crew found this empty boat - they had already spent 40 hours of searching.
They’d been tracking a possible boat in distress already since the day before, but then, through the night, lost contact. Come first light, the dawn was too thin to be much of help.
July 10, 2026, 10:38
By the time our crew arrived on scene, they’d knew they’d find an empty boat. And went on patrolling in standby for other cases.
July 10, 2026, 10:38
They acknowledged the relay and started to make their way to the last known position of that case. At some point, they noticed on the radar another vessel approaching that case. A moment of tension eased when they heard on the radio that it was the Italian Coast Guards. They had reached the distressed boat and taken all fifteen people safely on board, bound for Lampedusa.
(German below) Sea Punk I is operational again! After intensive weeks of training, our crew has left port in Augusta and is patroulling the area of operation for people in distress at sea. We do so because we fight for freedom of movement and equal human rights no matter where you are from.
Civilian sea rescue is antifascism. It is a promise—a promise of life. We are continuing our work, and for that, we need your financial support. Your donation helps us carry out these rotations.
Key steps that governments can take include eliminating discrimination in nationality laws based on race, ethnicity, religion or gender, resolving the situations of people who are already stateless, ensuring that no child is born stateless, registering every birth and issuing nationality documentation to those who are entitled to it.
July 1, 2026, 17:37
It is estimated that 4.4 million people are officially stateless, but the true figure is likely to be much higher. People become stateless through circumstances beyond their control, such as discrimination in nationality laws, gaps in birth registration, forced displacement and the dissolution of states. The consequences are profound: they have no access to education, healthcare, formal employment or property rights, they have no right to vote and no right to travel.
We are hiring! If you want to join our team and become our next Ship-Shore Coordinator, feel free to check the full job description on our website and send your application to jobs[at]seapunks.de by the 8th of July.

MASS CASUALTY INCIDENT Training.
WANTED: CAPTAIN. For our next rotation RT26/03. Dates: 17.08.2026-25.09.2026 Requirements: STCW II/2 Master Code Vessel less than 200GT or STCW II/2 Master Workboat less than 500GT Salary: 3.340 EUR brutto per month, 1:1 contract
This means that they are focusing on fewer studies and ignoring work that could support kinder, rights-based alternatives.
May 25, 2026, 11:30
The EU is creating a border complex where research is driven by security concerns and the need to develop tools for repression. The report, "Border Labs", by Stop Wapenhandel and the Transnational Institute, shows how universities are being drawn further into military and security research.
A Mother’s Day that ignores this brutal reality misses the point. True solidarity means fighting for the rights of ALL mothers.
May 10, 2026, 13:18
What does it mean to be a mother on the move? To fight not only for your own life but also for that of your children? When we draw attention to mothers’ rights, needs, work and care work on Mother’s Day, we must not forget mothers who have become refugees above all. Studies show that they face an increased risk of depression, anxiety, PTSD, and suicidal thoughts.
May 8, 2026, 09:20
SHE'S AFLOAT AGAIN! Sea Punk I meanwhile has been launched from dry drock in Licata and has finally water under her keel again. This also means that we are almost done with all necessary repairs to retain certificates and have her operative soon again, back in the Mediterranean. Stay tuned! And if you can, support us with a donation please.
CHIEF OFFICER WANTED! For our next planned rotation in June we are urgently looking for a person filling in the position of first mate. Requirements and tasks in Slide 2 and in more detail on our Crewing Website. If you suit the position and like to join a great crew, we are happy to hear from you via crewing@seapunks.de
We need strong unions that organize all workers. We need humane working conditions, fair wages, and affordable housing for everyone, regardless of our origin or immigration status. Our power is greatest when we all stand together and fight collectively for our rights.
May 1, 2026, 09:27
... instead of those truly responsible. Our answer is not exclusion - it is solidarity. We must unite in collective labor struggles. We refuse to be divided! The real problem are the overly rich who maintain precarious working conditions to maximize their profits — not migrant workers!
May 1, 2026, 09:27
Migrants are often blamed for low wages and worsening living conditions, while the real causes are capitalism and exploitative systems designed to protect profit over people. Corporations and states weaponize migration to divide workers, drive wages down, and keep us fighting each other,...
May 1, 2026, 09:27
This means building solidarity with temporary workers, pseudo self-employed, undocumented people, and all those pushed into oppressed sectors of labor. We will not be divided! So we take to the streets today — for solidarity between all workers.
Under the plan, people intercepted in the Mediterranean could be transferred to pre-designated “places of safety” outside the EU that could lead to more pushbacks and process asylum claims far away from EU oversight. Crucially, the proposal suggests further deepening cooperation with actors such as the so-called Libyan coast guard. Despite repeated reports of them firing on refugees. Rather than drawing consequences from these violations, the EU appears willing to intensify these partnerships.
April 22, 2026, 12:18
The EU is quietly planning the next escalation in border externalisation. For years, the EU has relied on deals with authoritarian regimes to keep people away from its borders. Now, a leaked internal document (via EUobserver & Statewatch) shows how this approach could be expanded to offshore sea rescues themselves.
